The dispensing system is typically made up of three parts: the closure, the actuator and the dip tube (if used with a bottle). Each of these components is essential in the operation of the lotion pump, but can be designed to work as a stand-alone unit.
Closure : The closure screws onto the bottle’s neck finish and acts as an airtight seal that prevents leaks while providing optimal air suction for a product’s dispensing. This part is usually made of a material such as polypropylene and can be ribbed or smooth sided depending on the design of the bottle.
Actuator : The actuator is the moveable lever that you push down to dispense whatever liquid is inside of the bottle. The more quickly you press on the actuator, the faster it dispenses the product.
Spray Nozzle : The spray nozzle has multiple holes through which thinner liquids pass to create the spray effect. These nozzles are most commonly used with household cleaners, alcohol, some sanitizers and vinegars.
Lotion pumps are often used with liquid soaps, body lotions and shampoos because they do not clog like typical non-lotion pump counterparts. They typically dispense a very precise amount of liquid per pumping action which helps ensure the consumer only gets the correct amount each time.
